Robert Stanley wrote an article for Advocate about the U.S. Supreme Court ruling in United States v. Windsor invalidating section 3 of the Defense of Marriage Act. The case brings to light many questions for couples contemplating marriage. The law used to restrict the federal interpretation of “marriage” and “spouse” to heterosexual unions, but the definition is now open to everyone — sort of.
